There has been a longstanding political campaign that depicts trans people as predators. This narrative has been responsible for generations of harm and violence.


The prejudice against transgender people is often perpetuated through misinformation.

Myths & Misconceptions


Myth: Most people will end up regretting their gender affirming surgery.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8099405/ - This systematic review gathered data from a total of 27 studies, which studied 7,928 patients who had gender affirming surgery. Only 1% of patients regretted their surgery, an incredibly low number compared to other major surgeries (knee replacement surgery has a regret rate of 15%).

Myth: Trans people do not experience systemic violence.

Myth: Gender affirming care is not beneficial for children who express gender dysphoria.

Myth: Children who haven’t reached puberty do not have a fully developed sense of their own gender identity.

Understanding Transgender Identity Development in Childhood and Adolescence - A scientific overview of gender identity development in childhood and adolescence. Research shows that, on average, children’s sense of their own gender develops between the ages of three and five.




Terms

Two Spirit - A term and concept used by created by Native Americans to describe a Natived American person who embodies both masculine and feminine qualities. They encompass a spiritual and gender identity outside the binary understanding of male and female.
